About the Composer: Sean Bailey
Writing music was Sean's first real passion. He has been writing music since age eleven when he started playing trombone. Over time, Sean taught himself rules of harmony and song structure concurrently with his training on the trombone. In his later years of high school, he formed a jazz combo which showed off his natural ability and love of improvisation. He also taught himself guitar and bass guitar in high school based solely on music theory.
Sean went to Emory University and double-majored in mathematics and music. During the college years, Sean continued to study trombone as well as play bass in a college band. During this time, most of his compositions were centered around rock bands as well as piano pieces and solo trombone works. He used a lot of his theory studies in College to develop his own musical language.
After college, Sean spent a brief stint as a martial arts instructor/school manager before landing a job as an actuarial analyst. A period of compositional silence took place for the next 3 years. He spent a lot of time playing piano, guitar, and bass by himself in his free time.
Sometime in June 2008, Sean got the idea to pursue recording music. Through generous support, he was able to set up a compact home recording setup. He started the solo thrash metal band Last Rites and began again with music composition. Slowly, he got his "mojo" working again and worked on writing more and more ambitious and creative writing.
Now he likes to spend time writing music and recording. He also has jumped into creative literary writing. Take a minute and check out the Phrygian Phish website to see some of Sean's other work.
